Valentine’s Day

Published by under General Information

Temps. hit 60 degrees here in the Cuchara Valley yesterday.  Warms the winter  heart and soul. The Signature posted some nice Valentine’s verse worthy of sharing today.

“Love is a game that two can play and both win.”

“Love is not just looking at each other, it’s looking in the same direction.”

Comprehensive Plan

Published by under General Information

A visioning workshop is to be held this weekend at the La Veta Community Center on E. Ryus.  The goal of that meeting is to begin steps to create a Comprehensive Plan for the citizens of zip code 81055 (the areas of La Veta, Cuchara, etc.) The workshop will be this Saturday, Feb. 12 and the published start time is 12:00 noon to 3:30 pm.  A wide variety of opinions and viewpoints will no doubt come out of that meeting.  I feel sure that Grandote Golf and Cuchara Mountain Resort will both hold high interest. So what do you want the future of our area to look like?  Your attendance and participation is encouraged and welcomed.

Snows Finally Ending

Published by under General Information

The news these past few days has been all about the weather.  After Sunday’s 18 inches, today we received another 6 inches.  Countin in last Wednesday’s 12 inches, that’s 36 inches in the past 7 days.  And 3 feet around La Veta is about 4 feet up at Cuchara.  But skies are clearing now and overnight temps dropping into the sub-zero range again.  And in 2 days, the highs are to be 50 degrees in La Veta and even 60 degrees in Pueblo.  Mud season melt-down will be upon us this weekend. You gotta love Colorado weather, it’s never boring.

18 inches +

Published by under General Information

I’m declaring this one an official 18 inch snowfall here at my birdbath fountain south of  La Veta.  Surely must have been over 2 feet up at Cuchara, with continuing scattered snow flurries predicted through Tuesday.  Liz is going to need a longer snorkel.

1 to 3 ??

Published by under General Information

A beautiful clear day Saturday and everyone was finishing their snowplowing and shoveling clean-up.  The current weather forecast was calling for only 1″ to 3″ of new snow Sat. night, but predicting more in the Sangre de Christo mountains of course.  Well we awoke this morning to well over another foot.  Yep, measures nearly 14 inches here at my place in the Wahatoya Valley just south of La Veta.  And still snowing.  I will post some new photos later today.

Real Estate Sales Tax?

Published by under General Information

Rumors, claims and valid credible reports,  are all writing about the new 3.8% real estate Sales Tax that was imbedded into the  Health Care Law.  Well, it is true, but the devil is in the details.  So how bad is it?  Well for starters, it does not become effective until 2013 and could therefore still be modified or amended before then.  Our National Realtors Assoc. has drafted its review of that new law and its impact on home sales.  Read the complete article here at
