Last week I posted a summary of the new carbon monoxide detection law. This applies to most homes offered for sale or rent. We have made arrangements with La Veta True Value where you can get a 10% discount on any detector purchased during July. And to further increase awareness of the need and safety benefits, we have also bought a limited number of detectors to give our Seller clients FREE, with their purchase of an additional unit (certain limits and restrictions apply). We encourage your attention and compliance to this new safety law. Contact us for more details.

The Timbers restaurant in Cuchara is back open. After a 2-week close, they were serving their fine dining entrees again last night. We took clients up for a great dinner and Tally and Taylor were providing friendly service in the relaxed atmosphere of the Timbers. Glad to see them back in action again.

Gas drilling around River Ridge west of Walsenburg continues to be a hot-button issue for those residents. Approx. 40 land-owners attended the recent Public Hearing for Petroglyph water discharge. And sadly, not one single County Public Official was in attendance. Petroglyph Drilling has continued to be under a “cease and desist” order due to gas appearing in neighboring domestic wells. Now Petroglyph wants approval to discharge up to 10 million gals of water per day from gas drilling.

Colorado lawmakers have passed a new homeowners law that will require Sellers to have carbon monoxide detectors in residential homes for sale. If the property improvements have (1) a fuel-fired heater, or (2) a fireplace, or (3) an attached garage; then an operational detector/alarm must be installed within 15 feet of the entrance to each Bedroom.

At this week’s Town Board Meeting, a new deputy was was hired to fill the vacant position. Some residents question the need and others question the selection. Former deputy Sid Popejoy had expressed an interest in filling the position but that was not warmly received by Town Board. Popejoy unsuccessfully ran for Mayor last term and is currently associated with Grandote Home Building. (politics?)

The Rural Property Owner’s Assn. and C.S.U. Extension will host a Noxious Weed Workshop this Saturday, June 20, at Huerfano County Community Center. Our Spring rains have germinated weed seeds more than usual. While the Lupin and Leafy Spurge produce a pretty flower bloom, they are as noxious as the Thistle and can take over an entire pasture, choking out the grasses and starving the livestock and wildlife.

The Timbers restaurant in Cuchara has been unexpectably closed this past week? The local rumor mill is a buzzing and we hope to see it back open for the weekend.
