July 4 (and 2nd and 3rd)

Published by at 2:08 pm under General Information

Cuchara Parade is always held on July 4, precisely, no matter the day of the week.  This year the Parade will fall on Monday. But our La Veta Parade is always held on the nearest Saturday before the 4 th.  So this year that parade will be on July 2.  Any way you look at it, there will be lots of fun throughout the holiday weekend.  Below are summaries submitted by Cuchara Tom.

Some of you have asked about the early July festivities in La Veta and Cuchara and I had not responded directly to that question because I did not know but now do thanks to the Signature’s 2011 Visitors Guide.  They state: “Enjoy a small town Independence Day celebration in La Veta and Cuchara.  It all kicks off on Saturday July 2 in La Veta with a parade stepping off at 10 a.m.  If you miss it the first pass down Main Street, stay tuned, it turns around and goes back up Main Street.  Don’t miss the Ranch Rodeo that night.

Enjoy Art in the Park on Saturday and Sunday at La Veta Town Park.  On Sunday, the L Veta Rotary BBQ will be held.  Tickets are available ahead of time at Charlie’s, or at the park.

On Sunday, July 3, the 4-H Club hosts a Mudfest at the Fairgrounds in La Veta.  If you haven’t attended a Mudfest, this is a must.  See  4-wheelers and modified trucks with huge tires make their way through a trough of mud.  It always guarantees good dirty fun.

In Cuchara, on Monday the 4th, the annual Family Run/Walk begins at 8 a.m. followed by a late morning parade and great BBQs at local restaurants.

On the night of July 4, the Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center will host a fireworks display.  Fireworks can be seen from Lathrop State Park or many other great spots around town.”
Don’t be too surprised if the fireworks get cancelled because of the dry heightened fire danger.

It is too bad that the parade festivities are scheduled at the same time as one of the other great events of the year: The Rails & Ales Brewfest. I really wish I could attend both! Hopefully next year the events don’t conflict.

I agree, hate to miss any of them.
