As we posted several weeks ago, Kurt Reuss has recently purchased the La Veta Inn. One of Kurt’s newest ideas to promote and involve local area artists is to invite their participation in displaying their artwork in the guest rooms.
According to Kurt’s blog, “The rooms will feature a local artist, with the artist’s work (photos, paintings, sculptures, quilt, books, wall hangings, etc.) incorporated into the artist’s design of the room. The room will also be renamed in honor of the artist. It’s my intention to turn the La Veta Inn into a ‘living gallery’ and support the artists in our community as well as draw new artists here.”

November has been an exciting month so far — Our La Veta/Cuchara Beautification Committee has been busy! Check out the newly-painted Marshal’s Office; the Library is in the process of moving some unsightly & unsafe water pipes; Holiday banners will soon line Main Street (painted by the LV High School Art Students in conjunction with the LV School of the Arts); Christmas decorations & lights will soon grace Main Street; AND with endorsement from the Town of La Veta – the La Veta/Cuchara Chamber will become a member of Downtown Colorado, Inc. DCI is an organization that works with communities to promote economic development, revitalization, technical assistance & training. In the future we hope to apply for grants that may come available. A BIG THANKS to all who have supported our beautification efforts in La Veta! LIZ

What a beautiful sunrise this morning over the Cuchara Valley.

Clouds in the SE provided a sepia-orange sky at daylight. Years ago when we were up in Steamboat Springs, they called this an Alpenglow Sky. Take a moment today to click on our West Peak weathercam for a real-time Cuchara Valley Sky. http://www.discoverbachman.com

Long-term mortgage rates rose over a quarter point this week. And some predict continued upward pressure. Wells Fargo increased from 4.25% up to 4.625%. Jumbo rates appear to have stayed steady for now, at 4.875%.
So is it now time to buy? With property prices seemingly about the bottom and interest rates on the rise, this may be the time to make that purchase that you have been wanting.

We are pleased to announce that Bachman and Associates has entered into a new Lease for our Cuchara Office location. Cuchara has always been an important segment of our real estate services. New owner of The Timbers, Don Ayers, has leased us an office at the end of that building right adjacent to Hiway 12 entry. We are excited to have this high profile corner with good access and parking for all our friends and clients.

President Obama has signed legislation that extends the conforming Loan Limits. In most pasts of the country, this limit will now still be $417,000. In select high-cost states it will be as high as $$729,500. The higher conforming loan limits are important to the housing recovery as the interest charged on those loans averages considerably below that of Jumbo non-conforming loans.
The provision means homebuyers and homeowners in expensive housing markets will continue to get a break on interest rates when they buy or refinance. Conforming loans come with cheaper rates than non-conforming or so called “jumbo” mortgages, because they are backed by the government.
On October 26, Erate.com reported the average rate for 30-year, non-conforming jumbo loans came in at an average 5.14 percent. Meanwhile, conforming loan rates averaged 4.45 percent.
